Leisure Activities

Bicycles

Tour picturesque Samish farmland or ride along Chuckanut Drive for a more elevated view of Samish Bay. And, Samish Island is an easy 10 mile ride from Edison.

Birds

Situated on the edge of the North Samish Slough, the Edison Flutter In is an amazing theater of bird activity. In the estuary only 20 feet away and in full view from the house, observe ducks, hawks, cormorants, eagles, gulls and heron. A garden of native plants provides a wilderness transition and attracts robins, red-winged blackbirds, purple finch, gold finch and an occasional interested hawk.

Cozy up by the fire and be entertained as the birds flutter and feed at the bird feeder.

Food

Taking advantage of the local, bountiful farmland, Edison is fast establishing itself as a place to eat wholesome, creative foods.  All are within a 2 to 3 minute walk from the Edison Flutter In.

Boats

When the tide is right, canoes, small boats or kayaks can be launched for a peaceful row through the estuary to Samish Bay, a quarter mile away.

Hikes

Access to day hiking in the North Cascades can be as close as a 15 minute drive to trails along Chuckanut Drive or an hour's drive to hikes in the Baker Lake area or Sauk Mountain. The Breazeale Sanctuary is 6 miles to the south and west. Further on down the road from the Sanctuary is the Padilla Bay trail, a magical walk along Indian Slough and the bay.

Art

The reflected light of the surrounding water bathes the pastoral landscape to sparkling effect and attracts artists as well as art enthusiasts to Edison. Enjoy the art displayed in local galleries or make your own.
